About Education Forward

One System. Several Great Outcomes.

For most people, buying a home is one of the largest investments they will ever make.

Yet very few people are ever taught how the systems within their home work together, how to stay ahead of maintenance issues, or how to make informed decisions when something needs attention.

As a result, many homeowners find themselves reacting to problems after they occur rather than preparing for them beforehand.

Education Forward was created to help bridge that gap.

40+ years in maintenance, construction, fire protection, hardware, and

homeowner education.

Throughout my career working in trades-related environments, maintenance, construction, fire protection, hardware stores, and home inspector training, I was fortunate to learn practical knowledge that was often passed from one generation to the next through experience, mentorship, and hands-on work.

As fewer people grow up around the trades, valuable practical knowledge is at risk of being lost.

Over time, I became increasingly aware that many homeowners were entering homeownership without a basic understanding of how their homes functioned or what maintenance responsibilities came with ownership.

To help preserve and share some of that practical knowledge, I wrote Common Sense Factor Home Maintenance: What To Do First in a format that was practical, straightforward, and easy to apply.

Following the book’s release, I received a positive response from homeowners who appreciated information presented in a way that made sense. The feedback reinforced something I had observed throughout my career: people wanted to better understand their homes and make more informed decisions, but many had never been taught where to begin.

Around that same time, I was speaking with a friend involved in fundraising with the Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton. Those conversations led me to think about how educational resources could create value beyond the homeowner and contribute to broader community participation and engagement.

That led me to a simple question:

What if homeowner education could do more than help homeowners?

What if it could also create opportunities to strengthen connections between homeowners, businesses, community organizations, and nonprofit groups within the communities they serve?

Education Forward grew from that idea.

By combining practical homeowner education with community participation, the goal became larger than a book. It became a framework designed to help homeowners make more informed decisions while creating opportunities to strengthen community connections and support local initiatives.

At its core, Education Forward exists to make practical knowledge more accessible, understandable, and useful in everyday life.

Because when homeowners are better informed, communities become stronger.

And when communities work together, everyone benefits.

More Than Home Maintenance

Homeowner education is where Education Forward begins—but it isn’t where the vision ends.

Education Forward was designed to help people make more informed decisions through practical education, awareness, and organization.

The initiative also creates opportunities for businesses, community organizations, and nonprofit groups to participate in meaningful educational efforts that strengthen the communities they serve.

Our Purpose

Supporting homeowners, strengthening communities, and encouraging informed decisions.

Looking Forward

While Education Forward currently focuses on homeowner education and maintenance awareness, the vision extends beyond the home itself.

I believe practical education has the power to strengthen communities, support local business participation, encourage meaningful conversations, and help people make more informed decisions.

As Education Forward continues to grow, the goal remains the same: making practical knowledge more accessible, understandable, and useful in everyday life while helping build stronger, more informed communities.
